School House Rock Rocked the House!

Music students, under the direction of Ms. Morel, performed selections from everyone's favorite educational cartoons, School House Rock!  Songs included:  The Preamble, Three is a Magic Number, Interplanet Janet and Interjections!

Tracks 1 & 2 performed on February 12 and tracks 3 & 4 performed on March 19.

Second Grade Shape Assessments

Ms. Woosley's second grade students found a unique way to learn geometric vocabulary. They were given an assessment that was essentially a set of riddles.  Students had to figure out what shape was being identified in the riddle based on the specific vocabulary used.  They then had to find that shape somewhere in the classroom.  The student's then used the iPads and an app called PixnTell to take a picture of the shape and record themselves describing the shape using relevant vocabulary words.  The kids did a great job with it and it made learning fun!

Here is an example of a completed project.

Rising 6th Grade Scheduling

Attention 5th Grade Parents:

It's the time of year to start thinking about your child's upcoming transition to 6th grade and middle school. Several forms will be coming home in the next couple weeks that are in need for you to review and sign. Here are a couple points to remember:

Please sign both the front and back of your child's Green Middle School Registration Form and their Elective Form on the reverse side of the green sheet.

Note the placement your child's teacher has given them for both ELA and Math for 6th grade. If you disagree with their placement choice, you can obtain a waiver and submit it to your child's teacher for consideration.

Information about middle school math and access to the waiver form can be found at the following address:
http://wake-ms-math.weebly.com/

Click MS Math Placement, find Waiver forms for Parents, and click and download the parent waiver form if you need it.

The deadline for all forms for tracks 2,3 & 4 is March 27th. Track 1 forms are due on April 14th.

If you have any questions about this process you can contact Mike Przybowski or Laura Bodek, the school counselors at 919-577-1705.

Parent Information Session on Single Subject Acceleration

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities. SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of the content of a course without having taken the course.

What is the process for Single Subject Acceleration?
Parents can nominate his/her child to skip a grade level of content in either Language Arts OR Mathematics.

Nomination forms will be available from your child’s school or through the online site listed below during the specified Nomination Windows.

Only students who are enrolled and attending WCPSS schools during the Nomination and Testing Windows will be eligible to participate in the in SSA during the 2015-2016 school year. Schools will offer differentiation as needed for students entering WCPSS after the SSA deadlines.

Parents may nominate students for this accelerative practice ONLY within our school’s specified nomination window.  Please note the Nomination Window and Testing Window for your child’s track.  Actual Testing Days will be announced for each track.  Our school’s windows are:
