Holly Grove 3rd Grader Collecting Gently Used Books to Benefit WakeMed

Emersyn Davis, a third grade student at Holly Grove, has chosen to organize a new and gently used book collection to benefit WakeMed Children's Emergency Department as her service project for third grade.

Emersyn has already started collecting books. She has placed collection boxes in the first and second floors of the school building and will be collecting until September 10.  If you have any gently used books please send them to school with your child for donations.

Emersyn said that she wanted to do her third grade service project to help kids like herself when they go to the hospital.

Ed Keating, nurse manager for the WakeMed Children's Emergency Department said that his nursing staff and the child life specialists working in the department pass out books to their patients and their siblings as a way to help alleviate the boredom associated with a trip to the emergency department. Books can offer comfort and be a distraction.  He said that the department always has a need for book donations.
