More Robot fun and learning! 2nd Graders code and estimate with DASH robots

Some awesome 2nd graders estimated with Holly Grove's DASH robots.  Students had to estimate how long lines were on the ground then program the robots to see if their estimation was correct. Students coded the robots to drive forward or backward in increments of 10cm up to 100cm.  The students had fun with tech and learned at the same time.

Want your student to code at home?  Visit code.org and there are many free modules to learn coding through games.

Third Grade Enrichment with a robot!

Third graders enjoyed researching a person and creating a timeline unusual enough for their DASH robot to maneuver around. Students had to measure and code their robot to move and say exactly what they wanted it to!

Letterland Word Sorting

First Graders use The Letterland Word Sorting App to sort spelling patterns. They worked collaboratively to determined which words go under each pattern.

From Sea to Shining Sea~Read Across America

From Sea to Shining Sea".... Read Across America kicked off with a Quillbert traveling around HGES classrooms reading books written by American authors. The teachers did an amazing job of decorating their doors, reading to classes, and having their students dress up as book characters. Way to go Ms. Echols and Mrs. McGannon for organizing.

Kindergartners are 100 days smarter!

To celebrate 100 days of kindergarten, we got to do some fun 100 themed centers.
We tried to stack 100 pennies (which is harder than it sounds), play ten frame bowling, estimate and count, create a picture with a one and two zeros, make something with 100 blocks, and write what we would eat 100 of.

We also wrote about what we think we will be like when we're 100 years old. :)

100 Days in Kindergarten

We celebrated 100 days of learning in Kindergarten back in February. We had a lot of fun activities including dressing like we were 100 years old, writing 100 words, and working in a variety of math stations. We have been learning about the 4 C's and when to use them, and the students had a great time Critically Thinking, Collaborating, Communicating, and using Creativity!

Physical and Chemical Changes

Students explored physical and chemical properties and physical and chemical changes (Science goal 5.P.2.2) using the following experiments:

*Physical properties of a cookie: Students observed the properties of their cookie, such as color, texture, shape, and state of matter
*Oobleck: see these directions (physical change - state of matter)
*Wooly booger: see these directions (chemical change - heat released, color change, rust)
*elephant toothpaste: I shared this video
A little messy, but the students loved it and were able to identify physical and chemical changes.

Balance & Motion

First grade students in Mrs. Hicks-Harris' class are learning how to make things balance. The students were challenged to think critically. The students balance a tagboard cutout of a crayfish on their fingertips. After finding the balance point, students were challenged to balance the crayfish on its edge, its tail, and its “nose,” using clothespins as counterweights.
